Active subscribers
Unsubscribed and bounced contacts are not the normal paid subscriber unit, but the highest active subscriber count during the billing cycle can affect the tier.
Interactive 2026 planning tool
Enter your audience size, sending frequency and workflow needs. MailScouter estimates monthly email volume, tests free-plan eligibility and identifies the likely minimum plan across six researched platforms.
Selected product links may earn MailScouter a commission. Commercial relationships do not determine verdicts or placement.
Plan estimator
The tool runs entirely in your browser. It does not submit, save or transmit the values you enter.

What the model calculates
The calculator first estimates monthly email volume from the audience size, campaign frequency and automation multiplier. It then applies documented free-plan limits, send multiples and workflow restrictions to identify the likely minimum plan.
Finally, it scores business-model fit and adds warnings about the provider's billing unit. A strong fit score does not override a missing integration, migration cost or a workflow you have already tested successfully elsewhere.
The number that creates the invoice
A database of 5,000 records does not necessarily create the same bill on every platform. Understand which records count before importing ecommerce customers, unsubscribed contacts or multiple publications.
Active subscribers
Unsubscribed and bounced contacts are not the normal paid subscriber unit, but the highest active subscriber count during the billing cycle can affect the tier.
Active unique subscribers
Subscriber tiers scale above the public entry price; the free Newsletter plan can hold up to 10,000 active unique subscribers.
Active subscribers across a workspace
The selected Scale or Max tier follows the combined active subscriber count across publications in the workspace.
Billable contacts
The count can include subscribed contacts and certain non-subscribed customers or visitors used by ecommerce workflows.
Active profiles
Any email profile that is not suppressed may count; suppressed profiles do not count toward email pricing.
Multiple contact statuses
Subscribed, unsubscribed and non-subscribed contacts can count, while duplicate people in separate audiences can increase the billable total.

FAQ
No. It estimates monthly email volume, free-plan eligibility and the likely minimum plan using documented public rules. Regional taxes, temporary promotions, annual discounts, exact subscriber tiers, SMS volume and checkout changes can alter the final price.
Their public pricing builders are highly dynamic and depend on selected contacts or active profiles, message volume, region, billing cadence and current offers. MailScouter does not convert a temporary calculator state into a universal price claim.
The tool adds a planning multiplier to campaign volume. Light automation adds 25 percent and lifecycle-heavy automation adds 75 percent. Real automation volume depends on trigger frequency and customer behavior, so the result is a budgeting estimate rather than a send forecast.
Some ecommerce platforms bill against customers or active profiles that can receive email, not only contacts who explicitly joined a newsletter. Mailchimp also counts several contact statuses. Review the billing basis before importing a store database.
No. The score reflects the selected business model and constraints, but migration cost, required integrations, editor preference and existing workflows can outweigh the ranking. Use the result as a shortlist and read the full review before connecting production data.
