Omnisend Expands MCP: AI Tools Can Now Manage Campaigns and Automations

Omnisend has expanded its MCP connection from analysis into execution, allowing compatible AI workspaces to create campaigns and manage complete automation workflows.

This is a research-led product analysis based on Omnisend’s official July update and MCP documentation. MailScouter has not independently security-tested the integration.

What changed in Omnisend’s July update

Omnisend’s Model Context Protocol connection has moved beyond reporting and basic campaign work. The July 2026 product update says users can now create and manage SMS campaigns, email A/B test campaigns and Campaign Boosters through a compatible AI workspace, in addition to regular email campaigns.

Automation access is broader still. Omnisend says MCP can create, edit, enable and disable automations, modify UTM parameters and work with all automation block types available in the platform—including webhooks. That changes the integration from an analytics assistant into an operational control surface.

The practical value is speed. A marketer can ask an AI tool to inspect performance, identify a weak workflow, draft a change and apply the approved configuration without moving through every Omnisend screen manually. The practical risk is the same: an AI connection that can modify revenue-critical workflows needs the same governance as any other privileged automation.

What MCP means in this context

MCP is an open protocol that lets compatible AI tools connect to external systems through a defined interface. Omnisend describes its MCP server as a secure bridge between an AI workspace and account data.

According to Omnisend’s documentation, the connected tool can access the data needed to answer questions or complete a request, including campaigns, automations, contacts, forms, segments and performance information. Historical revenue data can be queried for trends, comparisons and attribution analysis.

MCP is not limited to one named assistant. The usefulness therefore depends on the AI tool, the connection method and the permissions Omnisend exposes. Buyers should verify which clients are supported, what approval prompts appear and whether their organization can restrict who is allowed to connect.

Campaign creation now covers more than standard email

The July expansion adds three commercially relevant campaign types. SMS campaigns matter for time-sensitive promotions and post-purchase communication. Email A/B tests allow controlled testing of subject lines, sender details or content. Campaign Booster is Omnisend’s follow-up mechanism for recipients who did not open or click the first send.

Managing these through an AI workspace could reduce repetitive setup. A marketer might ask for an A/B campaign using two subject-line angles, define the test audience and select the winning metric. For a Booster, the tool could prepare a revised subject line and schedule the follow-up within Omnisend’s allowed window.

This does not remove the underlying rules. A/B tests need an appropriate audience, SMS requires channel consent and credits, and Boosters consume additional sends. AI can accelerate configuration; it cannot make an invalid audience or weak experiment statistically reliable.

Full automation management is the more important development

Campaign creation is useful, but automation access has greater operational impact because workflows can run continuously and affect revenue, customer experience and compliance. The ability to enable or disable a workflow means an AI-assisted change can move from a draft to production.

Support for all automation blocks—including webhooks—opens more advanced use cases. A team could create a post-purchase sequence, change delays, add conditional branches, update UTM parameters or pass events into an external system. That makes the MCP connection relevant to operations teams, not only copywriters.

The safest process is human-approved deployment. AI can prepare or explain the workflow, but a named owner should verify the trigger, audience eligibility, message content, channel consent, delays, exit conditions, discount logic and webhook destination before enablement.

The July release includes more than MCP

Omnisend also added practical improvements around forms, deliverability and integrations. Back-in-stock forms can now collect marketing consent, and every major form type can redirect visitors to a custom URL after submission. That creates cleaner paths to discount pages, collections, onboarding quizzes or account setup.

The email builder gained faster personalization insertion, text background colors and maximum-height controls for dynamic product images. Shopify and Hostinger were added to the guided domain-provider flow, which should make sender-domain and link-domain setup easier for merchants using those services.

Fourteen new integrations were added across billing, fulfillment, support, referrals and lead capture. The most strategically relevant include Chargebee, Zendesk, ShipBob, Unbounce and Aircall because they expand the events that can feed lifecycle automation.

Who benefits most from the MCP expansion

The strongest fit is a lean ecommerce team that already understands its lifecycle strategy but spends too much time extracting reports and rebuilding routine campaigns. The connection can reduce tool switching and make performance data easier to query in plain language.

Agencies may also benefit when they use standardized workflow templates across accounts, provided permissions and client boundaries are tightly controlled. Larger organizations with formal approval processes may find the current value more dependent on auditability, role controls and security review.

Teams that have not yet defined their segments, consent rules or lifecycle strategy will not gain the same advantage. Faster execution of an unclear strategy can create more mistakes—not better marketing.

The questions buyers should ask before connecting an AI tool

Omnisend describes the MCP connection as secure, but buyers still need to evaluate the complete chain: the Omnisend account, the AI client, authentication, user permissions, data retention and the people allowed to issue changes. MailScouter has not independently penetration-tested this integration, so we do not claim that a particular setup meets a regulated organization’s security requirements.

  • Which account data can the AI client read, and is the scope visible before connection?
  • Can campaign and automation write permissions be separated from read-only analytics access?
  • Does the account show who created, edited, enabled or disabled a workflow?
  • Can a user review the proposed change before it is applied?
  • How are API credentials or tokens revoked when an employee leaves?
  • What customer or revenue data is retained by the connected AI provider?
  • Is there a tested rollback process for a broken automation?

Does this change Omnisend vs Klaviyo?

The update strengthens Omnisend’s position as the practical ecommerce platform for smaller and midsize teams. Its value proposition is increasingly about fast execution: prebuilt workflows, accessible segmentation, multichannel campaigns and now AI-assisted management through MCP.

It does not automatically make Omnisend the stronger platform for the most data-intensive ecommerce organization. Klaviyo’s appeal remains its depth of profiles, events, predictive data and complex lifecycle segmentation. The deciding question is whether a team needs maximum data flexibility or a faster operational system with strong ecommerce defaults.

MailScouter’s current verdict remains unchanged: Omnisend is the better default for lean ecommerce teams, while Klaviyo is the stronger advanced choice when customer-data depth justifies added complexity. The MCP expansion increases Omnisend’s automation score, but not enough to reverse that category split.

The bottom line

Omnisend’s MCP expansion is a meaningful product update because it connects analysis with execution. Campaigns, complete automation workflows and webhooks can now be managed from compatible AI workspaces rather than only inspected.

That is valuable when a team has clear processes and disciplined approvals. Without those controls, the same access can accelerate mistakes. Ecommerce buyers should treat MCP as an operational advantage—not a substitute for lifecycle strategy, consent management or production governance.
